Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the patroness of Chile. Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary as patroness of the Carmelite Order. The first Carmelites were Christian hermits living on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land during the late 12th and early to mid-13th centuries. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is also the patron saint of Chile. The city of Palmi commemorates the "miracle of Our Lady of Mount Carmel" each year on November 16 with firecrackers, lights and festive stalls. The patron saint of boy scouts, soldiers, farmers and England, St. George served in the army of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, and was one of the emperor's favorite soldiers but was beheaded when he announced his faith as a Christian.
