14k Yellow Gold St. Rita Hollow Medal Pendant (21.2X18.7MM)

Saint Rita of Cascia was born Margherita Lotti. She was married at age 12 and for 18 years suffered her husband’s abuse and infidelities. When he was killed in a long-standing feud, she tried to keep her sons from retaliating. She prayed to God to take them rather than submit them to possible mortal sin and murder. Her sons died of dysentery a year later. At age 36, Rita entered the monastery of Saint Mary Magdalene and lived there until her death at age 76. A story is told that near the end of her life, she was bedridden at the convent. A cousin visited and asked if she desired anything from her old home. Rita asked for a rose from the garden. It was January; however, when her relative went to the house, a single blooming rose was found in the garden. On her feast day, churches and shrines of St. Rita provide roses to the congregation which are blessed by the priest during Mass. Her Feast Day is May 22.
