Rhodium Plated Sterling Silver St. Anne Medal (18.25 MM)

St. Anne, the wife of St. Joachim, was the mother of Mary and the grandmother of Jesus. Little historical information exists about Anne but giving birth to the Blessed Virgin Mary is sufficient for the Church to recognize her. According to stories dating back to the second century, an angel told Anne who was an elderly woman that she would conceive a child. In gratitude, Anne vowed to give the child to God, and when Mary was three years old, Anne and Joachim presented her at the temple in Jerusalem. Mary spent much of her childhood there and when she was 14, her parents betrothed her to Joseph. In another legend, sailors engulfed in a storm promised a shrine to St. Anne, their patron saint, if they made it safely ashore. St. Anne is the patron saint of sailors, housewives and expectant mothers. Her Feast Day is June 13.
