Sterling Silver Antiqued Our Lady of Loreto Medal (22X18MM)

Our Lady of Loreto refers to the house in which the Virgin Mary was born and where the Annunciation occurred. Legend says it was miraculously moved from Nazareth by angels first to Tersato, Dalmatia in 1291, then Recanati, Italy in 1294, and finally to Loreto, Italy where it has been for centuries. Not surprisingly, she is the patron saint of pilots, airmen and flight attendants. The long life of the house led also to the patronage of builders and construction workers. There exists another more scientific theory. According to Papal archivist Guiseppe Lapponi, in 1291 a family by the name of Angeli saved the bricks of the Holy House from the Muslim invasion. This information can be found on page 181 of the collection Chartularium Culinanense. Allegedly, in 1294, Niceforo Angeli sent the bricks to Italy as a wedding gift for his daughter. The arrival dates to December 10, 1294. During recent excavations beneath the House of Loreto, several hundred coins were found, two of which are connected to the Angeli family. The Feast Day is December 10.
