14k Yellow Gold Round St. Martin de Porres Medal (15MM)

Martin de Porres Velázquez, (December 9, 1579 – November 3, 1639) is the patron saint of mixed-race people and of innkeepers, barbers and public health workers. His father was a Spanish gentleman and his mother a colored freed-woman from Panama. A lay brother of the Dominican Order, he spent his whole life at the Friary in Lima, Peru as a barber, farm laborer, almoner, and infirmarian. He was noted for work on behalf of the poor, and establishing an orphanage and a children's hospital. Among many miracles attributed to him were those of levitation, bilocation, miraculous knowledge, instantaneous cures, and an ability to communicate with animals. Today, St. Martin is commemorated by a building that houses the medical, nursing, and rehabilitation science schools of the Dominican University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. A programmed of work is also named after him at the Las Casas Institute at Black friars Hall, University of Oxford. His Feast Day is celebrated on November 3.
