14k Yellow Gold St. Clare Hollow Medal Pendant (19X19MM)

Clare (also spelled Clair, Claire, etc.) (July 16, 1194–August 11, 1253), was born Chiara Offreduccio and was one of the first followers of Saint Francis of Assisi. At the age of 17 she heard Francis's preachings and ran away from home to follow him. He cut off her hair and gave her a rough habit to wear. Her sister and other young women joined her and they moved into the church of San Damiano. Their lives consisted of manual labor and prayer. Francis first led them, then Clare accepted the role of abbess. The order became known as Clare's Order of Poor Ladies. When she was too ill to attend Mass, she watched it on television and thus was designated the patron saint of television. Lake Saint Clair, Saint Clair River, and Mission Santa Clara were named after her, as well as the city of Santa Clarita. Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico celebrates its Santa Clara Feast Day annually on August 12.
