14k Yellow Gold St. Genesius Medal (23 MM)

St. Genesius is the patron saint of actors, lawyers, printers, stenographers and secretaries. Genesius was a court notary, legal clerk and secretary to the magistrate of Arles. One day while performing the duties of his office, the decree of persecution against the Christians was read in his presence. He was so angered by the edict that he left his position and went in search of baptism. He was captured and executed. The cult of Genesius spread quickly from Arles into other parts of the empire, including Rome, where a titular church was built. It was then assumed that he was a Roman martyr and hence called "Genesius of Rome." An entirely fictional legend later spread, which stated that he was a comedian who, halfway through performing an anti-Christian satire, pretended to be converted to Christianity so was then beheaded. His Feast Day is August 25.
