St. James was an Apostle and brother of St. John, and is the patron saint of pilgrims and laborers. Among the apostles he held a special place. When Jesus raised Jairus' daughter when all thought her dead, he allowed only James, John, and Peter to come with him. Hence the name of the ancient city (Santiago) which contains the cathedral founded in his honor. His Feast Day is July 25.
